Privacy policy.
This policy explains what information Magic Technologies Inc. collects across our website, the Magic app, and the Magic Ring — and, just as importantly, what stays on your device and never reaches us.
Who we are
Magic Technologies Inc. (“Magic”, “we”, “us”) builds wearable devices, including the Magic Ring, and the companion Magic app. This policy covers usemagic.io, the Magic app for iOS and Android, and the ring itself. Questions or requests about your data can always go to hello@usemagic.io.
What we collect on the website
- Waitlist. If you join the waitlist, we collect your email address to send you product updates.
- Preorders. If you preorder a ring, checkout is handled by Stripe. Stripe collects your name, email, shipping address, and payment details; we receive your contact and shipping information and the order status, but never your card number.
- Usage analytics. We use Vercel Analytics and Microsoft Clarity to understand how the site is used. Clarity captures behavioral data such as page interactions, heatmaps, and session replays through first- and third-party cookies, which we use to improve the site. Data captured by Clarity is processed by Microsoft under their privacy terms.
What we collect in the app
- Account. When you create an account, we collect your email address and, if you sign in with Google or Apple, the name and email your provider shares. Accounts are managed through our authentication provider, Supabase.
- Diagnostics. The app may collect crash reports and basic diagnostics so we can fix problems. These do not include the contents of your voice notes or health data.
What stays on your device
The ring talks to your phone over Bluetooth, and most of what it produces is processed and stored locally in the app:
- Health data. Steps, sleep, and other measurements from the ring are stored in a local database on your phone. We do not upload your health data to our servers.
- Gestures and motion. Motion data used for gesture recognition is processed on your phone in real time and is not sent to us.
- Voice notes. Audio captured from the ring is transcribed on your phone. Recordings and transcripts stay on your device. If you use voice food logging, the text description of the food (never the audio) is sent to a nutrition data provider (FatSecret or API Ninjas) to look up nutrition facts.
- Calendar and reminders. If you allow it, the app creates calendar events and reminders extracted from your voice notes using Apple’s on-device frameworks. We do not see your calendar or reminders.
Optional AI features
The app can tag your voice notes and extract things like events, reminders, and meals from them. By default this runs entirely on your device using Apple Intelligence. You can optionally switch to a cloud AI provider — Anthropic (Claude) or OpenAI — in which case the text of the note (never the audio) is sent to that provider from your phone, using an API key you supply. Your key is stored in your device’s keychain, requests go directly from your phone to the provider, and we never receive the content or your key. Your use of a cloud provider is governed by that provider’s own privacy policy.
Smart home integrations
The app can control smart home devices you connect. Each integration only runs if you set it up:
- Google Home. With your permission, the app uses Google’s Home APIs to list your compatible devices (names, types, and rooms) and to send the on/off commands you trigger. This data is used solely to show your devices in the app and carry out your commands; it is not stored on our servers.
- Apple HomeKit. HomeKit data is accessed on your device through Apple’s frameworks and never leaves your phone.
- Home Assistant. The app connects directly from your phone to your own Home Assistant server using a token you provide, which is stored securely on your device.
- Govee. The app connects directly from your phone to Govee’s cloud using an API key you provide, which is stored in your device’s keychain. We do not receive your key or your device data.
- Other integrations (such as Meross and Philips Hue). Where a cloud integration is routed through our server, the server acts as a stateless proxy: your integration credentials are sent with each request and are not stored by us.
Google user data
Magic’s use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In plain terms: data we receive from Google (your Google Home device list and device state) is used only to provide the smart home features you asked for. We do not use it for advertising, we do not sell it, and we do not let humans read it except with your consent, for security purposes, or where required by law.
How we use information
- To provide and improve the ring, the app, and the website.
- To create and manage your account.
- To fulfil preorders and respond to support requests.
- To send product updates you signed up for (you can unsubscribe anytime).
- To keep our services secure and debug problems.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it for third-party advertising.
Who we share information with
We share data only with the service providers needed to run Magic: Stripe (payments), Supabase (authentication and accounts), Vercel (website hosting and analytics), Microsoft (Clarity website analytics), and the nutrition data providers described above. Each receives only what it needs to do its job. We may also disclose information if required by law, or as part of a merger or acquisition, in which case this policy continues to apply to your data.
Data retention and deletion
Account data is kept while your account is active. You can delete your account from the app’s settings or by emailing hello@usemagic.io, which removes your account data from our systems. Data stored only on your device — health history, voice notes, gesture settings — is deleted when you delete the app. Waitlist emails are kept until you unsubscribe.
Security
Data in transit is encrypted, secrets and tokens on your phone are stored in the system keychain, and access to our systems is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfectly secure, but we design so that the most sensitive data — your health measurements and your voice — never leaves your device in the first place.
Children
Our products are not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export your personal information, and to object to or restrict certain processing. To exercise any of these rights, email hello@usemagic.io. We will respond within the time required by applicable law.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the product evolves. Material changes will be announced in the app or by email, and the date at the top of this page always reflects the latest version.
